Today, I will tell you about the places where you can roam free of tension in this lockdown. But you also have to follow certain precautions. In these places, you can be absolutely stress free about the hygiene system, and we all know that keeping proper hygiene is a must to defend against the deadly coronavirus. 

Here is a list of beautiful yet safe tourist places to visit during lockdown in India where you can visit during Covid. So let’s get started.

1) Valley of Flowers National Park

It is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. This beautiful park is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Valley of flowers opens every year in May and June and remains open until November. As the winter begins, this valley is covered with snow, but in the summer months, it is filled with beautiful flowers. In this lockdown, it may be a dream location for you.

How to reach: To reach Valley of flowers, you must have to get Joshimath first. For Joshimath, you will quickly get a direct bus from Haridwar or Rishikesh. The distance of Joshimath from Haridwar is about 275 kilometers. There is only one way of reaching Joshimath, and that is by bus. From Joshimath, you can hire a shared jeep or taxi to get Govindghat. After getting Govindghat, you will have to trek around 15 kilometers to reach Valleylley of flowers.

2) Pangong lake

Pangong lake is also known as Pangong Tso. This lake is located in Changthang of eastern Ladakh. It is an endorheic lake. A lake that loses its water by evaporation is called an endorheic lake. Pangong lake is situated at an altitude of 14300 feet in the Himalayas, which is very beautiful to see. 

There have been many Bollywood movies at this lake. About 60 to 65 parts of Pangong lake come in Tibet, which is in China. The length of this lake is about 140 kilometers, and the width is 5 kilometers. This lake is also known for its color-changing feature. Its water is sometimes blue, sometimes green, and occasionally red.

How to reach: You have two ways to go to Pangong. You can either go from Nubra Valley via Shyok village or go through Chang La. Pangong is the same distance from both the paths. Before going the way of Shyok, you have to confirm once because this road goes through the Shyok River where the landslide takes place.

3) Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is located in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan. Jodhpur, which is known as the blue city in the world. Mehrangarh is derived from the Sanskrit word Mihir, which means Sun. If you are fond of history, then this place can prove to be perfect for you. There are seven gates in total, from where you can enter inside this fort. Different rulers made these seven gates to honor the Jaipur armies. 

Mehrangarh fort is spread in about 5 kilometers. It was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha. Guys, if you go there, then hire a guide who will tell you a lot of essential facts about the history of this fort along with rotating it. 

  • Timings: 9 am to 5 pm (daily)
  • Entry fees: Rs 60 for Indians and Rs 400 for Foreigners. Camera fees Rs 100 and video shooting fees Rs 200 

How to visit: 

By Air: There is no international airport in Jodhpur. Jodhpur has a domestic airport which is located at a distance of about 3 km from Jodhpur City. This Airport is connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Udaipur, and Jaipur. If you are coming from anywhere other than these cities, you must first come to Sanganer International Airport, Jaipur. After that, you can go by flight from Jaipur to Jodhpur or by taxi and bus. The distance from Jaipur to Jodhpur is 300 km.

BY train: Jodhpur railway station is connected to all the major cities of India. The distance from Jodhpur railway station to Jodhpur city is about 9 kilometers.

4) Beaches of Goa

Area wise Goa is the smallest city in India. But you won’t believe more than 40 beaches are present in this small city. Goa is nothing less than a paradise for a sea lover. All the beaches in Goa are Arabian seawater. Goa State is divided into two parts, one is South Goa and one is North Goa.

​​South Goa beaches are very calm and less crowded. So that South Goa beaches are considered perfect for swimming. But North Goa beaches are the opposite of South Goa beaches. It is crowded every time. Goa beaches give you many conveniences, such as water sports activities, morning yoga, sunbath, surfing, dolphin spotting, crab catching, and many more.

This National Park is located in Thekkady, Kerala. Periyar Park is home to elephants and tigers. It was specially made for elephants and tigers’ protection. Apart from tigers and elephants, there are about 49 species of mammals, 250 species of birds, 25 species of reptiles, 20 species of fishes. Here you can enjoy boat cruise safari, jeep safari for the night and full day, and elephant safari.

  • Timings: Boat safari – 7:25 am, 9:15 am, 11:15 am, 1:30 pm, 4:00 am , Jeep safari – 11:00 pm to 3:00 am (for a night), Till 3:00 pm (for a day),  Elephant Safari: 6:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Entry fees: Indian adult: Rs 40, Indian Child: Rs 10 , Foreign adult: Rs 475, Foreign Child: Rs 170
  • Boating charges: Adult: Rs 240, Child : Rs 80

How to Reach: Nearest Airport is Kochi, which is around 200 km from Periyar, and the nearest railway station is Kottayam, which is 115 km from Periyar.

6) Coorg

Coorg is a beautiful hill station in Karnataka. Coorg is also known as Scotland of India. It is famous because of its lush greenery waterfalls, heels covered with forests, landscapes, and pleasant climate. This place is not less than a paradise for nature lovers. 

Best Places to visit in Coorg: Abbey Falls, Madikeri Fort, Tadiandamol peak, Iruppu falls, Dubare elephant camp, Chelavara falls, and Unchalli falls.

How to reach: The nearest airports are Mysore and Bangalore. Mysore airport is around 120 km, and Bangalore airport is approximately 250 km from Coorg. You can hire a bus or shared taxi from the Airport to reach Coorg. If you want to travel to Coorg by road, you can do it. Coorg is well connected by road with all major cities of India.

7) Cherrapunji

Cherrapunji is a beautiful tourist destination of Northeast India. This hill station is located in Meghalaya. It is famous all over the world for its rain forest. It receives the highest rainfall, so you will get to see some spectacular waterfalls in the country. There are many places here where you can enjoy the pleasure of roaming. To name a few, world-famous seven sister waterfalls, Wakaba falls, Mawkdok dumped valley viewpoint, Mawsmai cave, and many more. If you want, you can also roam Mawlynglong, Asia’s cleanest village. 

How to reach: The nearest Airport and railway station of Cherapunji are in Guwahati. From the Airport you get Cherrapunji by road. Time taken will be around 5 hours. The taxi fare for this is around Rs 4000.

8) Sarahan

Sarahan is located in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by snow-covered mountains, forests, apples, and cherry orchards, these places are like heaven on earth. You can also visit Sun temple, Bhimakali temple, Shrikhand peak, beautiful baspa river here. 

How to reach: You can reach Sarahan from Shimla or Chandigarh. Bus services are available from both these places to Sarahan. Time taken to get Sarahan from Chandigarh is around 7 hours, and from Shimla, it is nearly 4 hours. The bus fare will cost you from around Rs 1000 to Rs 1500, and the reserved taxi can cost from around 4000 to 5000.

9) Varkala

It is located in Kerala. At this place, you can enjoy nature, serenity, closeness to the sea. Like the rest of Kerala beaches, this beach is not very crowded. If you are an adventure sports lover, this place can prove to be a dream destination for you because there are many water sports activity facilities here. Some of the prime locations to visit here are Sri Janardhanaswamy temple and Thiruvambadi beach.

How to reach: Varkala town is well connected by road and by train. The city has its railway station. The nearest international Airport is Trivandrum international airport, which is around 50 km from the town.
