1) Konark Sun Temple

50 min (35km) ride from Puri, which takes you to the fantastic 13th century Sun temple at Konark. The temple is dedicated to Hindu God Surya. The temple is included in the eight wonders of India. This temple is full of architecture. This architectural art has been made with so much artistry that you will not ignore it easily. 

The temple depicts 126 types of dance arts. In my opinion, you can take the help of a guide to roaming this temple, which is free.   

2) Chandrabhaga Beach

Situated at a distance of 32km from Puri and 3km from Konark Sun temple. Chandrabhaga sea beach witnesses a breath-taking view of Sunrise every day. Chandrabhaga beach has become Asia’s first beach to get the blue flag certification. 

That is a tag given to atmosphere friendly clean beaches equipped with amenities of international customary tourer spots. Don’t forget to miss out on the ATV fun rides costing Rs 100 for single and Rs 150 for double. 

3) Chilika Lake and Sanctuary

It is Asia’s most giant inland saltwater lagoon and the second-largest saltwater lagoon in the world after the New Caledonia barrier reef in New Caledonia. It is the most significant wintering ground for migratory birds.  

  • Best time to visit Chilika lake: The time from November to February is the best time to visit Chilika Lake. Mostly it is a season for migratory birds, and it is even more exciting to explore this lake during these months. 

Situated around 40km from Puri. Near this lake, there are many places where you can roam. For visiting, first, you have to book a boat, whose price is around Rs250 per person. 15 to 18 people can sit in one boat. If you want, you can also book a private boat worth up to Rs 2000. After about 1 hour, you will reach the dolphin site where you can see the dolphin, and then this boat will take you to an island where you can see the Union of the sea and Chilika Lake. 

4) Narendra Sarovar (Pokhari)

Narendra Sarovar is a pond that is considered very sacred. Narendra Dev Ji built this pond in the 15th century. There are many small temples present inside and around this pond which you can visit. This pond is also known as Chandan Sarovar. Chandan Yatra is organized here every year with grandly. Devotees from all over the world come here to enjoy this festival. 

5) Lokanath temple

Situated at a distance of 5km from Puri. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shiva Linga is partly submerged here inside the pond. The pond has many fishes which can be seen easily. The temple is elegant, clean, and well maintained. 

According to history, the Shiva Linga here is built by Lord Rama. When Lord Rama was going to find Goddess Sita, he reached Puri. He sat there and started chanting Lord Shiva. There was a village named Sabarapalli. The villagers gave him a Pumpkin. That Pumpkin looked like a Shiva Linga. Lord Rama installed that Pumpkin and Prayed Shiva to fulfill his desire. Thus, the temple is named Lokanath temple. 

6) Pipili

Situated at a distance of 40km from Puri. It is famous for its artwork, which is considered the traditional art form of Odisha. The villagers of Pipili were set up to accommodate the craftsmen of Odisha. Initially, the craftsmen only used to make banners, umbrellas, and canopies for festive occasions.  

But with the popularity of the art, the artisans started making many utility items. The craft involves embroidering and stitching small pieces of colored cloth with flowers, animals, village scenes, and traditional designs onto a more extensive base cloth. The fabric used for the patch and the base is cotton with different color combinations. Many shops sell various textiles in both silk and cotton with beautiful ikat work. 

7) Ramchandi Temple

30 min (25km) ride from Puri will take you to a beautiful and accessible spot, Maa Ramchandi temple. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandi. Goddess Chandi sited on a lotus flower in a small temple half-hidden by sand mounds on the river mouth of Kushabhadra and the endless Bay of Bengal stress to eternity is the scenic magnificence of the place. 

The friendly site has always fascinated young lovers, students, and picnickers from far and locals to come and enjoy the beauty of this place. You can also enjoy the Union’s view of the sea and the river.

8) Puri Sea Beach

A 20 min (10km) drive from Puri will take you to a very enthusiastic and adventurous place, the blue splash water park. It spreads over an area of 10 acres. Apart from the variety of pools and kid zones, the water park has seven water rides. Not to forget the sculpture of a laughing Buddha that pours water on you as you sprinkle and splash with your family and friends.

Situated at a distance of 5km from Puri. Sri Totapuri Ashram was known as Guru of Sri Ramkrishna Paramhans. Legend has it that he lived for (you won’t believe) 300 years here. His body still lies in the shrine where he was laid down. 

13) Sri Gundicha Temple

It is famously known as the maternal aunt temple of Lord Jagannath. The temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Subhadra, and Balabhadra. During Ratha Yatra, the deities come here for nine days. On the day of Ratha Yatra, this place is quite illuminating. Mobile and Cameras are not allowed and should be kept in Locker. 

14) Atharnala bridge 

Athar means 18, and Nala means passage. It is believed that King Indradyumna, who commanded the Jagannath temple’s construction, had sacrificed his 18 sons’ life when the structure of the tallest tower of the temple was unsuccessful. He had offered the heads of his 18 sons in the water.
